Dr. Jason Elliott Stanhill, DVM

About

Dr. Jason Stanhill grew up in landlocked Arizona with an obsession for marine mammals (an irony that was never lost on him). Although he always thought he'd be a marine biologist, an opportunity to teach about HIV and AIDS in Africa during college led him down a path towards medicine instead. After a short stint as an EMT, he realized people were "mostly just okay" and that veterinary medicine is where his heart truly lies. He started out cleaning kennels at a local clinic, and worked his way up to being a technician before going to vet school at Colorado State University. During his time there, he saw his dreams come full-circle with externships at The Marine Mammal Care Center, Sea World, and the Navy Marine Mammal Program.

Although Dr. Stanhill's career has been focused primarily on shelter medicine and surgery, he comes from a family of educators, so it was no surprise when he started teaching for a veterinary technician program in Denver before finally joining the faculty at App State full-time. His professional interests include anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, surgery, anesthesia, and math...lots of math.

While his family continues to bake at a high heat in Arizona, Dr. Stanhill lives in beautiful northern Colorado with his golden retriever, Teddy. They both enjoy football, sci-fi, laughing, traveling, and chewing on squeaky toys.
